Who am I?

My name is Gianfranco Melocchi, and I define myself as a nature photographer… with a slight “tremble” (which perhaps adds a touch of originality!), a “makeshift” painter (but with a lot of passion), and a sculptor with two… left hands.
I’ve been living for just over forty years (okay, it’s 48, but let’s not be picky) in the province of Bergamo, a land I deeply love, but which over time is increasingly forgetting its natural side, being eaten away by concrete and asphalt.
I love to travel, and my heart is as red as the soil of Africa.
Through photography, I try to capture and convey the emotions that nature stirs in me, hoping to share them with those who observe my shots. I play with contrasts: of light, of color, but above all, of emotions! In an era where climate change is transforming our planet, I believe that photography can be a powerful tool to document what we are losing and, perhaps, to spur us to action.
In post-production, my intent is to preserve the essence of the reality I saw with my own eyes, adding that touch of emotion that I felt with my heart. I don’t want to alter the truth, but to enhance its inner beauty.
Painting, for me, is an exploration of parallel worlds, where form vanishes and gives way to pure emotion. I don’t seek “mathematical” certainties, but a flow of sensations, a meeting point between the reality of the body and the fantasy of the spirit. My canvases become free zones where emotions, painting, and matter merge into a tumult of seemingly ruleless forms and colors, but guided by an intimate expressive need.
I experiment with different materials, mixing enamels, acrylics, and vinyls in quantity, in search of new textures and materials laden with history. Often, these materials are submerged in color, but their presence is intuited, adding a hidden depth to the work.
